Alanna's: Cupcakes, Bondi Junction (14 Oct 2009)

Shop 2, Royal Arcade
175-181 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction NSW 2022

Cupcakes make me smile :-)

Does anybody else feel like a kid in a candy store when they see cupcakes? This is my second visit to Alanna's for half-sized cupcakes as a treat to share with the family. All cupcakes are $2 and the Banana Cupcake (pictured above) is my favourite today. It seems to be a banana cake base with banana flavoured icing and a banana candy on top. The Snowman is pretty generous on the icing which seems to taste mostly of coconut. So many choices — so little time!

Other visits to Alanna's:

14 Oct 2009 - Banana, Mango, Strawberry, Snowman, Lemon Meringue
20 Sept 2009 - Tiramisu, Date pudding, Dark Chocolate, Lemon Meringue

Mango cupcake $2

Lemon Meringue cupcake $2

Strawberry cupcake $2

Snowman cupcake $2

cupcakes make me smile too! the lemon meringue one looks pretty. do they actually taste like what they're supposed to? because at some cupcake places only the icing tastes like the supposed flavour and the cake is kinda bland

I like small cupcakes, more like the patty cakes size I had as a kid, rather than the ginoourmous muffin sizes you can get now. ugh.

Ooh cute! What were the actual stumps of the cupcakes like? That's always the real test for me :)

hi jacq, i'm starting to think it's all about the icing and it's really hard to actually find some really amazingly super moist bases. although in saying that i thought the banana base actually had some decent flavour so i guess that's why it stood out for me the most.

hi fiona, i guess the smaller they are the more choices you get to try in one go :-)

hi betty, i still think they could have been more moist for my liking. they apparently cook them daily but i guess there could be some time from when they're made in the morning and when you actually get to buy them and eat them. i wonder what the official term for the 'stump' part is? i never know what to call it.

hi bean sprout's cafe, sounds like some competition in the air of who can make the best cupcakes.

hi ladybird, i think you might be right about homemade being the best because they will always taste the freshest and most moist. but if your too lazy to make them (like me) then where's the best ones in Sydney? :-)
