Noodle Mee: Asian, Wynyard Station, CBD Sydney (9 May 2012)

289 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000

All stations to Asia

I'm not sure how long this place has been here but I must have walked past it so many times without noticing. I didn't even notice it when I've done an EasyWay taste testing right next door. The hole in the wall entrance leads to a largish seating area and you can either choose ready made dishes from the bain-marie or the cooked to order menu board. It's quite unusual and slightly scary seeing Korean, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian dishes all on the one menu — makes me think can they do any of them right. Service seemed friendly enough and kitchen turnaround was quite efficient. You get a buzzer so you know when to collect your dish. The constant beeping of buzzers in the small eatery was probably the most annoying aspect of the dining experience but at least you can sit while you wait.

My Bibimbab Beef ($7.90) was seemed quite reasonably priced complete with a runny egg and fairly fresh ingredients sitting on a bed of rice. I thankfully chose the chilli sauce to go with the light tasting dish to add some flavour and some chilli kick. You also get a small side soup and tiny dish of kim chi which helps to add extra flavour. The Spicy Ramen and Rice ($7.90) had quite a flavoursome broth with an egg, sprouts and noodles. I think a few slices of pork would have sat well in the dish to give it more substance. The noodles remind me of instant noodles. I thought a side of rice was quite unusual to be served with a soup. Perhaps some dumplings or gyoza instead would have been a better match to compliment.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Seems quite a reasonably priced menu, Service was friendly enough and efficient
CONS: Table seating hard to find when busy, Seating feels a bit cramped, Blink and you'll miss the entrance
MUST TRY: Returning to try their other dishes including laksa
Bibimbab Beef ($7.90) includes a bit of kim chi, side soup and sauce
Bibimbab Beef ($7.90) with a soft poached egg
Bibimbab Beef ($7.90) mixed up and ready to eat
Hidden toothpick in the spoon?
Spicy Ramen and Rice ($7.90)
Revisited 31 May 2012
PadThai Lover with chicken ($8.90) — flavours quite nice although not sure of the addition of chinese vegetables, carrot and capsicum in the dish which doesn't seem authentic
MouthBurner ($8.90) — chillis not too hot but hot enough and in abundance

Plentiful supply of chillies in the MouthBurner

i have always noticed this place but forgotten to come back to actually try it! very good prices and the spicy ramen looks delicious, i wonder if you can ask for extra meat on top?

The food definately looks better than the exterior suggests. Thanks for letting us know

hi tina, i might visit again to see what the other dishes are like

hi vivian, nicer seating arrangement than the hectic hunter connection near by too

hi nic, let me know if you check it out and what you have. hoping they do a decent laksa which i spotted on the menu board

hi gaby, i don't bring my lunch in at all these days so always looking for good options around the CBD

hi excusemewaiter, that's a good idea about the ramen. i'll have to see if they can add some meat next time to make it a bit more substantial

hi tania, i can see why people have never really noticed this place when they walk past or forget about it. such a little doorway.

I always go to eat the Sundubu Jjigae (seafood tofu soup) which is only $8.90. I love to drink soup. It is hard to find cheaper than this price in any korean restaurant in Sydney CBD.
