Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Mascot (8 Sept 2018)

Donut life at Krispy Kreme

Watching Krispy Kreme donuts being made is quite mesmerising and a definite kid pleaser as they peer through the kitchen window. If you're not careful in this place there's some serious calorie loading to be found. Visiting with the kids we all chose our own donut temptation. Miss 3 year old got the The Simpson ($3.25) because she loves pink. I got the Choc Iced Sprinkles ($3.25) because it's one of my favourite combos and Miss 6 year old chose the Original Glazed ($2.85) which I also love. Everything seems to be provided in takeaway boxes here, even if you're dining in. Some reusable dine in plates would be a more sustainable solution although I noticed the general clean up of tables seemed non-existent which did make the place feel a little dirty. There's free parking outside and a drive thru available. I noticed on the packaging the first glazed doughnut made down under was in 2003.

Donut fix sorted

Seems to be a good spot for a pastry fix with a large variety of pastries, cakes and breads. Prices look very reasonable as well. Enjoyed the Iced donuts ($1.50 special) and Cinnamon Donut ($0.60 special). Handy location if you're passing through Edgecliff Station. Also noticed a decent seafood shop and butcher in the shopping centre. Thanks Deirdre O'Loghlin for the bakery tip.

Sugar and caffeine hit

A lethal combination of sugar and caffeine available here. Cappuccino ($3.50) using Lavazza's Boutique Elements Espresso was nicely made with enjoyable flavour and strength. Nutella Donut ($5) by My Donut Box is generously filled and best enjoyed warm which is available from their heated cabinet. Texture was reasonably soft as hoped. Decadent looking cronuts are also available if there's no fear of calories.
