Cheap and cheerful Asian
This cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurant is located directly opposite the Prince of Wales Hospital. It's a bit off the main restaurant strip of Belmore Road so it doesn't seem to get much pedestrian trade and it's not on Eatability. I can't imagine how they survive but it's been around for years so I assume their main customers would be lunchtime university students and hospital workers. Tonight I try the Combination Chow Mein with Crispy Noodles which fills me up and does the job for a simple dinner. I'm sure it's full of MSG (how does one know? — thirstiness?) and while waiting for my order I noticed eight different sized font styles on just the cover of the takeaway menu — now that epitomises Authentic Australian Chinese to me :-). Lunch specials are $8 between 11 am to 3 pm which sounds pretty reasonably priced and there's the usual classic entrees, soups and rice dishes. The service is friendly and efficient (probably because I'm the only customer dining at the time) and the dining area is clean and simple.
SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Reasonably priced, Plenty of clean seating, Quick service
CONS: Possible MSG, Westernized style menu, Non-flattering lighting
MUST TRY: Because it had my name :-)

LOL. You had to eat at your namesake eh? I try to avoid restaurants that use MSG now, as I get so parched afterwards. Not a good feeling.
hi joey, i think i get parched as well like most people. some people i think get headaches. i guess if a place says it doesn't use MSG then possibly they do.
Loved this place when I was a uni student years ago - think they had a nice crispy chicken dish then..dont know whether it still exists now... Looking at your pics again sure brings back fond memories!!! :)
hi winnie, i think it's pretty well priced and located for uni students. i'll have to remember about the crispy chicken. sounds good. always looking for a good crispy chicken :-)
hi BGDino, I thought it would be popular with the hospital staff and students. thanks for letting me know :-)
There's nothing wrong with a bit of MSG unless your allergic to it as some people are. I'm all for increasing umami even if artificially
hi anon, i tend to find MSG makes me quite thirsty but i've learnt a new word from you today 'umami' :-)
