Nothing new under the sun
So here I was thinking Avatar was such a cool original movie when I went to see it in 3D at Hoyts La Premiere for my birthday and I just learnt it was pretty much based on Disney's Pocahontas movie — no way! Oh well, doesn't matter, it was still a very enjoyable movie to watch and I always thought the general theme of the movie had been done many times before. It's all so obvious now. See below the amended comparison extract that's been going around the internet for your reference :-). Of course this has nothing to do with food except for the fact that I ate a hell of a lot of popcorn during the very long movie of 162 minutes but I think it's still pretty cool to know unless I've just spoiled the movie for you — sorry!

I thought exactly the same thing after watching it in December when it premiered. I enjoyed it too, mainly for the outstanding visual effects, because I was so disappointed in the hackneyed script; it really ruined it for me how cliched every plot development was. I expected much more from a movie that took ten years to gestate.
Totally agreed with you. avatar is Pocahontas in space.
hi joey, i agree the visual effects were amazing. i didn't mind the script because i knew it was going to be totally Hollywood and i don't get to watch movies that often. i've generally learnt HOLLYWOOD = CLICHE. i try to also avoid previews because they ruin the movie for me and many times show the best scenes.
hi ellie, pocahontas in space hehe i love that expression :-)
