Great community event

Whilst strolling through the festival it was hard not to feel compelled to try the yummy smelling BBQ sardines and meats on offer. Alas my stomach was already full from a quick bite at Silvas for some Portuguese charcoal chicken ($4) and a Portuguese tart ($2) from La Patisserie — the two most Portuguese food items I seem to only know. The event looked like lots of fun filled with many locals and I was really thinking they'd be a cheeky Turkish Gozleme stall somewhere amongst it but not this time. Although there was a Poffertjes Dutch Pancake stall run by Chinese which made me laugh — what's Dutch pancakes got to do with Portugal? I also spotted a Seafood Paella stall which seems to be becoming just as popular as the Turkish Gozleme at festivals — last time I tried it at Fair Day.

Free Portuguese Festival

This free event now in its eighth year welcomes all to have a taste of Portuguese culture. The streets come alive with a party atmosphere and the day features contemporary and traditional Portuguese and Brazilian dancing and music, as well as wine tasting, football demos and activities for the kids. The streets will be lined with stalls serving the cuisine of the Mediterranean, as well as Portuguese and Brazilian wines, beers and of course, sangria!

I always seem to find out about these events after they happen so this one is now marked in the diary. I unfortunately missed out on trying to get free tickets to the Jamie In The Park event on the same day so I've now got something to help make up for it. It was impossible getting online through Ticketek — congratulations to anyone that managed to score some tickets.
