Decent pub food

There are plenty of very fancy and expensive restaurants to choose from along Crown Street these days but if you're looking for something more reasonably priced to fill you up which is still decent quality then Trinity Bar might be a good option to check out. The Salt and Chilli soft shell crab with Asian coleslaw, lime and palm sugar dressing ($20) really made a good impression on me this time and was very tasty with a nice crisp factor in the Asian coleslaw. I think it could have perhaps benefitted with a some more fresh mint in the Asian coleslaw to give it an extra dimension on the taste buds but it was a great tasting dish nevertheless.

My order of Grilled barramundi with chips and salad ($20) was decently sized and I'm glad to see it came with a decent amount of delicious salad dressing too — I hate it when they don't give you enough salad dressing. There were no complaints about the Chicken schnitzel burger with cheese, tomato and saffron wine with grilled Trukish bread ($15) and for a very filling meal you might want to try the Slow Braised Lamb Shanks with roast vegetable and red wine jus on mash and steamed spinach ($24) with meat falling off the bone as it should. As I came back to the table after ordering I noticed someone getting stuck into their decent sized plate of BBQ ribs would looked excellent. I'll have to remember to try this next time and hope it delivers on taste. If you can't find seating downstairs then check upstairs (pictured) which also has another bar to get your drinks.

I haven't been to the Trinity Bar since before it's extensive renovations in January 2008 and I'm thinking their food menu might have been upgraded too. My quality steak came out medium rare as requested, the salad was fresh with tasty dressing, and the chips were crisp and plentiful. I thought the generous serving of 3 soft shell crabs with a mountain of Asian slaw was good value also from the specials menu. It seems like a popular pub with spare tables at a premium amongst a busy crowd and the staff dashed around efficiently although possibly too efficient when they mysteriously whisked away our ice bucket with bottle of questionably unfinished white wine from under our table — so keep your drinks close and in sight to be safe.
