2.0 Coffee Co, Darlinghurst (29 Oct 2016)

Coffee on Stanley Street

This place used to be Third Village Coffee which I remember made a great protein porridge. With a name like 2.0 Coffee Co you'd expect these guys to do a good coffee and thankfully they did. I found the Cappuccino ($3.50) with house blend very good with good strength of flavour and the notes I like in a coffee. Hot chocolate ($3.50) for Miss 4 year had some cool bear latte art. She loved this. Babyccino ($1) was very nicely presented and mostly froth as hoped for Miss 1 year old. Would be better if served in a paper cup though to be safer in the hands of a 1 year old. Scrambled eggs and toast with tomato ($12.90) was a decent size and yummy. The tomato could have benefitted from being roasted for longer to make it more sweeter and caramelised. I'm never a fan of dishes that are served in a bowl-like plate when you need to eat them with a knife and fork. Just makes it harder to eat. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Parking in the area is a bit challenge to find at the best of times.

Coffee run in Surry Hills

This place is a bit of a hidden local gem in the back streets of Surry Hills. Cosy spot for a coffee hit or bite to eat. Tempting freshly baked Apple, Thyme & Ricotta Muffins ($4.50) caught my eye on the counter. Glad I got one with a nice crust on the outside and moist and tasty inside. My Cappuccino ($3.80) was also good with quite rich flavours just the way I like it. They're using Dukes Coffee Roasters. A satisfying breakfast on the go sorted.

22 Grams (formerly High Street Cafe): Cafe, Randwick (15 June 2013)

166-168 Belmore Road (entrance via High St), Randwick NSW 2031

Setting a high standard

22 Grams (formerly High Street Café) has become a popular cafe for locals from its humble beginnings. It now seems to be on top of its game after improvements with the look and feel of the place while retaining its high standard of coffee with experienced baristas. This review combines three visits and each time the experience has been good. Today's Cappuccino ($3.50) has good roasty flavour and depth. My daugther's Babyccino ($1) wins her heart leaving a big chocolate smile and monobrow on her face after drinking from the cup. The Avocado bruschetta ($9) is stacked high with fresh tomato and topped with basil. It's generous size is best eaten with cutlery than by hand and is improved with extra seasoning from the table. Scrambled eggs with roasted tomato, goats cheese & basil ($12.50) is nicely cooked and one for the goat cheese lovers. There's a tempting display of homemade cakes and pastries for those in need of a sugar hit. The flaky Apple pastry ($4) was good and could only be improved with a side of vanilla ice cream to make it extra special. Decor is cosy helped with plenty of natural light and service remains friendly and efficient.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Good coffee, Friendly and efficient service, Reasonably priced menu, Freshly baked cakes and pastries
CONS: High chair not available
MUST TRY: Coffee with a cake of your choice
VERDICT: So far consistently good coffee with friendly and switched on service and I hope it continues that way
