Unmissable Soft Shell Crab

Last time I visited Snakebean I missed the 'unmissable lamb massaman' so I had to of course try it this time round. Lamb was tender with nice flavoured curry although I think it could have been notched up a couple of levels on the curry heat factor for me, unless it's not supposed to be too hot? The soft shell crab was a standout tonight with its decent meaty sized pieces of crispy crunchy outer batter goodness — although I prefer the tastier green papaya salad at Spice I Am from what I can remember. It's quite a small restaurant so unfortunately the tables are quite tiny leaving little room for the dishes when they come out. You need to order and pay for your dishes at the counter first.

Missed un-missable massaman

Whenever I spot crispy deep fried basil leaves on top of a dish I know the food will be a step up from the run-of-the-mill Westernized Asian restaurants. This tiny cheap and cheerful Asian diner has lots of the usual favourites and is the first place I've come across which now provides Dettol hand wash to customers on the table during these Swine Flu times. The prawns were plump and tasty in the Banana Flower Salad and you could definitely appreciate the chili-jam heat in the tofu stir fry. Tables are very small so be careful how many dishes you order at a time from the counter or you'll quickly run out of room. The Lamb Massaman and Beef Massaman are apparently their most popular dishes which I unfortunately missed this time even though it says 'un-missable' on the wall menu.

Where's your favourite Massaman Curry in Sydney?
