The Beauchamp Hotel: Tasting Plate, Darlinghurst (21 Sept 2009)

Better than expected

I'm always wanting to try a bit of everything when I'm dining out (is that greedy?) so a tasting plate is a great way to share a meal while at the same time getting to try everything being ordered. I was quite impressed with the tasting plate on offer because it all seemed cooked to order and ended up being $13.50 each which I think is quite reasonable for a dinner meal. The lamb fillet was tender as hoped as well as the salt and pepper squid. It was a little disappointing that 2 of the 4 dishes were fish — I thought it would have been nicer to have something different on offer to show some diversity, perhaps one of them could have been chicken. Nevertheless I'd probably have again if I was in need of a simple meal in the area.

Cosy decor & upstairs courtyard

Located in a prime spot on Oxford Street amongst the restaurant area this bar has nice lighting, decor and cosy seating to hide away from the cold winter weather and catch up with friends for a drink. Later in the night got quite busy, especially in the courtyard where smoking is allowed. I have yet to try the meals here but sampled the yummy cold platter and wedges for a friends birthday drinks. Apparently you pronounce the hotel name as “Beech’um”.
