A new slice of the bakery

Lucky timing for me driving past the new Flour and Stone Annexe geared for the takeaway trade of their freshly baked temptations. The solo Peach Tart ($8.50) caught my eye on display for a yummy morning tea treat. The brand new space looks good filled with all the usual suspects we've grown to love. I'll definitely have to keep that wonderful Lemon Dream cake in mind for a special occasion.

Oyster game is strong

My new favourite place for a pimped up oyster fix. Tried the Sydney Rock Oysters from Merimbula with rice vinegar, lime & ginger ($4); tomato water jelly & wakame ($4.50); smoked avruga caviar, dill ($5). Oysters were shucked to order and was impressed with the good balance of flavour and texture of each kind while the oyster still remained the hero element. On the bill they were all charged $3.50 including the naturals so not quite sure what's happening with the pricing on the menu. Risotto with swiss brown mushrooms, rosemary and 24 months Parmesan ($20) was one of the specials of the day with a glass of wine or beer of the month. Great price considering a glass of wine will set you back $10 anyway. So refreshing to see a dish that hasn't resorted to be pimped up with edible flowers and micro herbs and is all about good flavour and technique. A tasty and well-cooked dish that's a good Winter warmer. Service was nice and friendly and the decor quite comfy. The owner has an obvious passion for old telephones which are displayed around the restaurant and bar, hence the name inspiration for the restaurant 'Contact'. For those who can bear the thought of leaving their phones off the dining table or simply need it charged there's charging lockers available so you can better appreciate the food and meaningful conversations with your dining guests. Definitely would be a challenge for any instagrammer and blogger to dine without taking a photo of their food though hehe.

Pizza life in Woolloomooloo

I've tried the Super Special pizza ($15, 9 inch size) many years ago and it's still a tasty comfort dish for me. The plentiful topping of ham and hot salami meatiness is balanced with the mushroom and saltiness of the anchovy and olives combined with tomato and cheese. The onion and capsicum provide a bit a textured crunch. A complete meal for one. The base isn't quite your classic Italian style but it's a nice enough base. Service was friendly and there's plenty of seating around. I spotted 'Shots of Potts' on the menu for $50 which contains 10-12 shots. Now that's one way to start an after work drinks. Not quite sure why it's two t's in potts though.
