Quaint spot for lunch & scones
It was great timing seeing the Grab Your Fork blog review of Berrima before heading to Canberra which I kept in mind for the return trip to Sydney. Berrima is a lovely small historic town with plenty of food and handicraft shops to stroll around and entertain you for a couple of hours — I'd even consider staying overnight and enjoying some of the local restaurants and lovely fresh air. Today's visit brings me to the Old Bakery Tea Rooms for a late lunch which is a lot larger inside than you'd expect from the outside. For me it's the generous sized Berrima Burger with chips which is more than filling and filled with fresh ingredients. The Chicken Schnitzel was also good and quite thick yet remained juicy enough. No complaints with the hot chips which are always a crowd pleaser when done well.
A short walk around the town and then it was back for Devonshire Tea of 2 generous sized scones with clotted cream and jam and a choice of tea — we needed to ask for more cream to help finish the scones. You could easily share one serving between 2 and just order an extra tea. I'm more a 'jam first then cream on top' kind of guy but tried both ways to be sure. We had a terrible time pouring the tea and milk without making a huge mess — the poor design of them failed us miserably. My video below didn't quite show the tea stuffing up but I managed to capture the milk disaster — let's just say our table was equivalent to a yum cha messy table of soy sauce except with tea and milk.
Devonshire Tea $7.80 (2 scones with clotted cream, jam and tea)
