Dining destination on College
A welcomed addition to the dining scene on College Street which has been pretty much non existent to date. Love the open kitchen, decor, outlook towards Hyde Park and the exceptional professional service that's also down-to-earth and friendly. These guys are part of Lotus Group who also own Lotus Restaurant and they also have a cafe next door for a more casual coffee and cake fix with many goodies baked in house plus the same nice fit out.
For entree I had to try the Sydney Rock Oysters foraged from Woolooware of all places — yes, that suburb in The Shire. Natural ($4) and granny smith & chardonnay vinegar granita ($4.50). Cleanly shucked to order and brine retained. Lovely start washed down with a glass of Crawford River Young Vines Riesling 2015 ($14). One of their signature dishes seems to be the WA octopus, ajo blanco, sumac & grapes ($29) and for good reason. Lovely and tender octopus, nice tasty char, great flavour combination, would happily order again. For dessert I was tempted by the Rum Baba with quince, almond cream and lemon curd but ended up with my waiter's suggestion of the Spaghetti pumpkin milhojas, crema & pepitas ($15) for something a bit different. Excellent pastry, nice flavour, definite pumpkin taste. Next time the Rum Baba perhaps.
