Racking up your pods
After checking out the Nespresso store and seeing how expensive Nespresso pod racks were I decided I could make myself one for practically nothing — I always love a challenge. With two A4 sheets of plastic coated cardboard I found I was able to work out a simple design that would hold the pods in place. The sheets were about 2 mm thick which is about ideal. It needs to be thick enough so you can form at lip to hold the pods in place. The rack is filled from the top and pods slide down when you take one from the bottom. The rack can hold 36 pods but you could make a larger or small version quite easily. I worked on the principle of being able to create this out of two A4 sheets or one A3 sheet. I first used craft glue but this didn't hold so I ended up using double sided tape to hold the cut strips in place.

hi sarahkate, i think Nespresso has a lot of fans out there that can't do without it. i wish their racks were cheaper though. ridiculous prices for some things. i guess it's all about the brand.

hi anonymous, i thought they now have a recycling option if you bring them back to the store? although I'm not sure how effective it is and how many customers actually do it.

I tried something very similar but with a wooden instead of a plastic board.
The problem is that pods overlap and pulling one pod out will sometimes trigger a cascade of pods coming out.
Unless of course you carefully lower the pods with your other fingers like you do in the video.
From what I see nothing will prevent the same from happening in your version. You are just pulling them out carefully, right?
hi Thanos Polymeneas, a wooden version would be very cool. you have to make sure the bottom lip is wide enough so when you drop them quickly and overlap it won't all fall out. i know what you mean though and putting them in slowly tends to be the safest way so they don't fall out the bottom.

I made one and posted my video to YouTube :) We didnt use the measurements, but used your idea as a guideline to what suited our space we had available. Also used corregated plastic which was the closest we could get :) Thanks for the video comment btw! xx

What is the name of the material you used and where can we get it from?
hi theo, i actually just found it around the design office as an offcut so not exactly sure what it is but i think it's basically a 2 mm pvc sheet. possibly art shops might have but i think it's a little more specialised which signage printers use for retail signs etc. someone used corrugated plastic which works even better because it has grooves you can use. :-)
