Baked fresh daily for the locals
While driving down Clovelly Road I spotted the clearly marked Clovelly Bakery which apparently has been around for about three years — shows how often I drive past this area. Service was welcoming and friendly and there was a nice assortment of temptations in the display counter plus freshly baked breads behind the counter. The White Sourdough Hi-Top Loaf ($5) was pretty good with the right about of flavour for my liking and a decent outer crust. The Apple & Rhubarb Crumble ($4) was full of fruit and moist. Would go well slightly warmed up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Lamington ($3) was just slightly dry on the inside but the flavours were nice. Perhaps a bit more coating would have given it that extra moisture I was hoping. Alternatively cut in half with some jam and freshly whipped cream would have worked a treat. There's quite a decent choice of pies on the menu which I'll have to try next time with maybe one of the sausage rolls and spinach & spinach roll to compare to all others I've tried.
SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Friendly and welcoming staff, Baked fresh daily, Reasonably priced menu, Fair amount of pies to choose from
CONS: No seating except for maybe the milk crates at the front?
MUST TRY: Sourdough bread and returning to try the pies and Olive & Rosemary Bread
VERDICT: A locals bakery providing a classic assortment of pies, breads and cakes
