Local gem pizzeria in Clovelly

A great little local gem with lots of character if dining in. I got the Bambino pizza - Ham, Mozzarella, Tomato Base ($16 medium) for the kids. Nice even spread of the finely sliced ham around the pizza shows it's been made with some love. Prawns and Bacon pizza - Prawns, Bacon, Onion, Garlic, Chilli, Mozzarella, Tomato Base ($17 medium) for the adults. Nice flavour with noticeable garlic. A few more prawns would have been great.  The pizza base is quite thin and holds together well.

Clovelly's new local gem

This place used to be Daniella's Gelato Cafe which made some really nice gelato. Thanks to Around The Clock Foodie for the cafe tip. Great to see it has a new owner and looks like its fast becoming a local gem. Single Origin Roasters is used for the coffee and they did a good job of the Latte ($3.50) and my Cappuccino ($3.50). No coffee art for me but its the flavour and froth that make it a winner. When they bring out colouring pencils and sheets for the kids you know the place is kid friendly although plastic cups for table water would be a good idea as well. Babyccino ($1) is also done well with all froth served in a paper cup and a marshmallow on the side. Kids Hot Chocolate ($3.50) is good and pretty much means it's served with a lid and straw. I didn't spot an Adult Hot Chocolate on the menu though. Scrambled eggs with toast and bacon ($8 kids meal) is very good and a decent portion size. Scrambled eggs done well and bacon tasty. Would have been great if it was also served with a bit of butter for the toast but I believe you can ask for some if required. Cheese Soldiers ($4) is reasonably priced and easy for kids to eat and share. Service was pretty friendly although slightly frantic I think from being so busy. Coffees felt like they took a while to come out but worth it in the end.

Clovelly Bakery: Sourdough bread, Pies & Cakes, Clovelly (17 June 2012)

305 Clovelly Road, Clovelly NSW 2031

Baked fresh daily for the locals

While driving down Clovelly Road I spotted the clearly marked Clovelly Bakery which apparently has been around for about three years — shows how often I drive past this area. Service was welcoming and friendly and there was a nice assortment of temptations in the display counter plus freshly baked breads behind the counter. The White Sourdough Hi-Top Loaf ($5) was pretty good with the right about of flavour for my liking and a decent outer crust. The Apple & Rhubarb Crumble ($4) was full of fruit and moist. Would go well slightly warmed up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Lamington ($3) was just slightly dry on the inside but the flavours were nice. Perhaps a bit more coating would have given it that extra moisture I was hoping. Alternatively cut in half with some jam and freshly whipped cream would have worked a treat. There's quite a decent choice of pies on the menu which I'll have to try next time with maybe one of the sausage rolls and spinach & spinach roll to compare to all others I've tried.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Friendly and welcoming staff, Baked fresh daily, Reasonably priced menu, Fair amount of pies to choose from
CONS: No seating except for maybe the milk crates at the front?
MUST TRY: Sourdough bread and returning to try the pies and Olive & Rosemary Bread
VERDICT: A locals bakery providing a classic assortment of pies, breads and cakes

Out of the blue: Fish and Chips, Clovelly (4 July 2010

272 Clovelly Road, Clovelly NSW 2034

Into the queue

Out of the blue is a small classic fish and chip take away shop which has mostly favourable comments on Eatability (7.4 after 13 reviews). It's certainly a popular take away which unfortunately can also make for a very long wait for your order when busy. The Grilled fish burger ($6.50) and Crumbed fish burger ($6.50) are simply made with freshly cut salad and have a homemade taste and quality to them — pretty filling too. Classic looking Chips ($4 small) have a good spread of crispy pieces and there's enough to share between two people. If you're thinking of eating in there's some limited seating but you'll be surrounded by people waiting for their orders. Take away orders are neatly wrapped but depending on travel time can affect how messy the burgers will be when you reopen them. Service at times seems strained when busy but they try to be as efficient and friendly as possible.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Reasonably priced, Freshly made to order, Quite tasty
