I started food blogging 1 year ago back on 1 October 2008 coinciding with the first day of the SMH Good Food Month 2008. With 318 blog posts later the event has now become the Sydney International Food Festival and with so many foodie events on offer it's one of the most exciting times of the year for me to be in Sydney for food.
This post should have happened 20 days ago, but it's now the 20 October due to eating and photographing so much and not having enough time lately to do my posts so I'm now 32 blog posts behind. Better late than never I guess :-)
The usual food events I try checking out at SIFF are:
Enjoy a special lunch menu for $35: one main course plus coffee, and a glass of matching Brown Brothers wine, Coopers beer or a 500ml bottle of S.Pellegrino sparkling or Acqua Panna still mineral water.
Drop in for something sweet, plus a Brown Brothers dessert wine or Hennessy cognac from 9pm-11pm. Set price $20.
Sydney's mighty mixologists have been hard at work, creating their ultimate Belvedere Vodka cocktail. It's paired with a clever canape – and all for $20.
Note: For this event I go more for the atmosphere rather than the food which I usually find a bit overpriced for what you get.
The criteria was simple, as we asked photographers to 'shoot a chef'. It could have been a three hat chef, the local take-away cook around the corner, or perhaps their favourite or most interesting home cook.
I tried booking Quay for Let's Do Lunch a few days after the SMH released their official program on 12 September 2009 but it had already booked out for the whole month. My next option was Aria which I booked a table for 12 on 7 October — review coming soon.
I hope you find time to check out some of the events and how cool are those SIFF food flags they created!
