Southern Italian-style pizza
“Vacanza Pizzeria, Bronte opened its doors in 2010 and two years later Vacanza in the Hills followed. Vacanza, meaning ‘holiday’ in Italian, is the brain-child of owner Nick Gilbert, a self-confessed pizza fanatic whose passion lead him to Southern Italy, where he spent his time learning the art of traditional pizza-making before returning to Sydney to open Vacanza Pizzeria.”
I've been to the very popular Surry Hills restaurant and this place is just as popular. You can't seem to order takeaway pizza online so you need to phone up — they like to keep it real and personal here with the locals. Pizza #13, “The Vacanza” ($22.90) comes with Italian fior di latte, Swiss roasted mushrooms, truffle oil and shaved pecorino. Nice soft and tasty pizza base and tasty toppings. Smells so good when you open the box. These guys work super fast in this small kitchen and it's all Italian speaking. There's no time to waste being so popular. Also got the Tiramisu - made with real Italian mascarpone ($11). I always have to try the Tiramisu. Probably not the best thing to get as takeaway though. Hard to make a tiramisu look good inside a plastic container. Very nice flavours and fairly soft texture. I'd love it with a bit more wetness for extra moistness and flavour. Probably best enjoyed at the restaurant though. The serving size is quite small for the price but perhaps you get more when dining in as it would be served on a plate rather than a small plastic container. Service staff friendly and efficient both on the phone and when picking up the order. Some seating out the front but looked liked plenty of seating at the back and I think upstairs. Great local vibe and definitely a local gem. Pizza fix sorted.
