The Lookout: Cafe, Elizabeth Bay (22 Aug 2018)

Coffee with a great water view

This cafe takes full advantage of the marina view and the menu remains surprisingly reasonable. Cappuccino ($3.50) uses Mecca Coffee and is well made with a good hit of flavour in a small size cup. There's a fair amount of seating although I'm sure it'll be well sort after on the weekends. Free street parking exists for the lucky ones and there's a nearby playground in the park for the kids. It's also a dog friendly area.

New Mecca kids on the block

Loving the fit-out of this new kid on the block serving Mecca Coffee. I'm a big fan of The Little Bishop just down the road for a coffee fix but this place has the temptation of more seating for the dine in experience and extra seating out the back pending council approval. Cappuccino ($3.50) was nice and the Housemade Cranberry and Coconut Muffin ($4.50) helped fill the morning stomach void. Service was friendly and the cafe seems to be gaining popularity fast. The reasonably priced menu includes some take away sandwiches for only $9 which should keep the lunch time locals happy. Thanks Deirdre O'Loghlin for the coffee tip.

Seasonal produce driven cafe

Last time I visited Cornersmith was back in May 2013 so nearly 4 years later it's good to see it's still going strong. Cappuccino ($3.70) using Mecca Coffee Blend is well made with a strong flavour that hits the spot to kick start the day. Latte ($3.70) was well liked by the Mrs as well. Babyccino ($1) is served in a paper cup which is a good start. Served mostly as milk can sometimes be a challenge for Miss 2 year old without spilling any although she seems to have thankfully managed in this instance although no marshmallow to hit those sugar notes. Simple pleasures are satisfied with the Cheese toastie ($6) using The Bread and Butter Project sourdough and Maffra Cheddar Cheese with simple yummy flavours that please the tastebuds — the kids loved it equally as much as the me. There's a fair amount of cosy seating although due to popularity it's most likely you'll need to put your name down to be seated. Parking can be a challenge in the area but it's free for at least an hour. Staff were friendly and efficient and run this cafe well with lots of respect to artisan suppliers and fully supports backyard produce from locals.
