Grub & Tucker: Big Breakfast with a side of Graffiti, Newtown (17 Oct 2009)

191 King Street, Newtown NSW 2042

Over-the-top decor

I sort of feel like I've fallen down the rabbits hole and discovered Alice in Wonderland. The walls are covered with cool brightly coloured graffiti illustrations and the heavy wooden tables hold menus in large blocks of wood. There's also large sculptures adorning the dining area and a nice sunny courtyard at the back. The big breakfast is substantial in size and the fresh orange juice is good. I find the homemade corn and herb hash brown a bit non eventful for me but the cosiness and efficient service more than makes up for it. Seems to be very popular on weekends which can add some strain to the busy service staff.

The Lucifier big breakfast: Toasted sourdough, sausage, bacon, field mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, homemade corn and herb hash brown, eggs of your choice, served with fresh OJ and tea or coffee $14.90

The decor sounds a bit "too cool for school" but I've read a couple of reviews of grub n tucker on other blogs too and noone's really had a bad word to say - will definitely check it out soon; today if I can get a table at lunchtime! Had no idea about the courtyard though, looks great for a sunny sunday.
