All for a good cause
The Surry Hills Festival is presented by Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre. The festival is a major fundraising event for the Centre’s activities and is also an important community development initiative. Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre Inc is a non-profit, non-government community based information and resource organisation. The festival’s regular home of Prince Alfred Park is undergoing extensive renovations, so this year the festival will be finding a temporary new home and a new shape which will be much smaller, with significantly fewer numbers of stages and artists. Next year they’ll return to their usual format.
The 2010 festival aims to be creative, intimate and have a community picnic feel with the entertainment stages limited to two small parks — Ward Park (Devonshire Street) & Shannon Reserve (Crown Street), and possibly other satellite venues. The festival will present live entertainment and djs, market stalls, free fun activities for kids and families, food stalls, amusement rides and the famous Surry Hills Dog Show, in a miniature version of the usual festival.
