Marrickville Pork Roll: Vietnamese, Marrickville (28 May 2010)

236a Illawarra Road, Marrickville NSW 2204

Blink and you'll miss it

Possibly the smallest shop in Marrickville yet one of the busiest is this simple Pork Roll shop. Perhaps in need of a good renovation but it's old world charm attracts plenty of loyal customers who are happy to queue. Only six menu items of very cheap rolls which are filled to the brim. The Chicken Roll ($4) and Pork Roll ($3.50) are probably the most popular orders like Hong Ha Hot Bread in Mascot. If you're looking for a cheap lunch then look no further.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Very cheap, Tasty ingredients, Specialise in only a few items, Open 7 days
CONS: Long queues when lunch time, No seating, Take away only
MUST TRY: Pork Roll

Pork Roll ($3.50)

Chicken Roll ($4)

A well stocked ingredients counter

6 items on the menu at prices that will keep your wallet happy

Opening hours

Number should actually be 236a I believe

Open 7 days

Smallest shop on the block, if not Marrickville

Cheap and fresh, what more do you need?

I love these rolls! Haven't been to the Marrickville spot but just looking at the shrubbery-packed roll makes me salivate!
If you're stuck near the city like me, there's a spot (Phuong Vietnamese Rolls) in Hunter Connection near Wynyard that does very good rolls and they are just as cheap - the most exxy one is $4.50. I always get my fix there.

I can't get enough of pork rolls -love 'em! I usually go to a place around the corner on Marrickville Rd, but will give these a go next time.
They're the perfect meal - crusty French roll, multiple kinds of pork, fresh crunchy salad, a bit of coriander and a big hit of chilli... drool!

Not a fan of pork but could be well worth giving a salad roll a go - it's so cheap!

As a local of Marrickville for over 25 years, we get our Pork rolls and bread rolls from Hong Phat Bakery, 139 Marrickville Rd. They're very generous with their fillings, and the bread rolls are the best in Marrickville. This bakery is truly a hidden gem of Marrickville.
