Spicy & Tender Rendang
This Malaysian/Singaporean place is tucked inside the Grace Hotel and possibly overlooked by many pedestrians who aren't aware of it. The main things I like about this place is it's not as squashed and noisy as a food court, it has a nice decorative high ceiling and there's clean toilets available to use in the hotel lobby. It's also a great place to escape for lunch during really hot days because it's air conditioned. The beef rendang is quite nice today and the meat is tender enough. The curry sauce has a bit of a spicy kick to it which is good. I'm not sure why there's a side of capsicum, lettuce and cucumber salad (thinking it's very Italian) but it helps refresh the palette. I think having some large slices of cucumber would be a more welcomed side garnish to the dish. I was actually hoping to try the Hainanese Chicken Rice to compare to Jaya Malaysian and Sayong but it was sold out today.
Where's your favourite beef rendang in Sydney?
Rendang Lean Beef Curry Rice $10.50
Revisited 15 March 2012
Bak kut teh ($11.50) — quite a nice depth of flavour in broth
Hainanese Chicken Rice ($11.50) — breast ordered, rice flavoured, meat fairly tender but could be better, soup OK, chilli & ginger quite nice
Fair amount of seating although noticed a sign on the Grace Hotel entrance that toilets are only for guests

Ahhh BaBa! I've found itt can be near impossible to get a seat for any more than 2 people after 12:45pm. The chicken rice there isn't bad. Not quite as good as Sayong and a touch pricier from memory. The upside is you won't walk away smelling like you've been at a barbecue.
I walked pass by the hotel many times.. never thought that there is food court inside? You are very good at finding places for lunch..hehe
I've had several things here but never the Rendang. Perhaps that will be next :)
not sure if I like eating here. Everytime I come here, the food is this weird fusiony thing that taste odd and I don't like their iceberg lettuce and capscicum salad.
hi bob, i know what you mean about the fusion thing going on. i put this place in the westernised asian category :-)
hi shez, definitely not up to the standard of sayong.
hi bean sprout's cafe, quite a nice spot on a hot day because it has air con and cleaner than most food courts
hi aptronym, let me know what you think of it if you do try
