Bacco Pasticceria: Coffee Eclair, Chifley Plaza, Sydney (10 May 2010)

LG03, Chifley Plaza, 2 Chifley Square, Sydney NSW 2000

Creamy all the way through

For today's afternoon sugar hit the Coffee Eclair ($4) sure developed on an abundance of cream throughout the eclair casing — no empty pockets of air for these ones. So much so that be careful when you take a bite — spillage is hazardous to your clothing. I preferred cutting the eclair into four pieces so I could take small breaks between eating it. I liked the crunch of the toffee glazing with crushed pistachio nut although the coffee taste is fairly subtle.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Interesting and reasonably priced cakes for the quality
CONS: High on the sugar/calorie counter if that matters to you
MUST TRY: Concorde, Lemon Tart, Strawberry Tart, Cannoli Siciliani

Oh that sounds yum. I usually dislike eclairs because of all the empty pockets of air but I think I might actually like this!

Going on my list of ' to try' for when I go to Sydney next!

Yum! No kidding about the cream in the eclair.

hi celeste, i actually usually dislike eclairs for the opposite reason that they are too rich for me with all the cream inside hehe hope you have a great time in sydney when you next visit

hi nomnomnobblies, i think the restaurant/wine bar is open but sounds like the coffee bar is closed. i don't think they would get enough pedestrians traffic to warrant being opened but during the week there's heaps of office workers from above. i think the restaurant still serves some of the desserts though.

hi sarah, a good sign of attention to detail and not skimping i guess on the product :-)

I'm drooling and the good thing is that this place isn't too far from my work. Maybe one day I'll head down there

hi john, be sure to try the concord if they still have it and lemon meringue and strawberry tart. you might have to share though :-)

Simon, sorry its not coffee eclair (the staff might tell u it was cuz it used to be coffee before). But it is grand mania flavoured cream diplomate (vanilla pastry cream + whipped cream)... I am very sorry about the miscommunication. But soon we will have the new cakes and there will be the label and detail of them :)

hi bean sprout's cafe, thanks for the clarification. they used to have labels for the cakes but they don't seem to have them at the moment and the receipt docket said 'coffee eclair' so i took it from that. looking forward to seeing the new cakes come out. of course if you ever want to invite me over to the kitchen to check them out please let me know ;-)
