Cicchetti Wine Bar Restaurant, QVB, CBD Sydney (13 Sept 2016)

Level 2, QVB, 455 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000

Sugar hit in the QVB

I love the QVB. Such a grand old building and Cicchetti takes advantage of the high ceiling view and is located around the Great Australian Clock. I noticed they have a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu but they seem to focus and promote their high tea menu and cakes on display. Hot chocolate ($5) was a little pricey but it's very large in size and pretty chocolatey. Opera cake ($8) is quite nice with a richly flavoured top layer of very dark looking chocolate that sticks to your spoon as you eat it. Young service lady was friendly, polite and welcoming. The colourful desserts on display are bought in and look quite rich and decadent. There's no descriptions or prices in view which would be helpful to know.

Espresso on York: Best value espresso coffee in Sydney (7 Sept 2010)

Cnr York & Market Street, Sydney NSW 2000

Cheapest good coffee in Sydney?

I first read about this tiny unassuming coffee kiosk on The Internet Chef and had the opportunity to check it out today after finishing my lunch from QVB Gourmet Seafood and noticing Bacco Wine Bar Pasticceria will soon be opening a new shop in the Queen Victoria Building. SMH Good Living mentions Espresso on York in their research article about Coffee Chains Stores and how Tony Diakis serves up an impressive 300 coffees a day. With no one waiting before me it only took him a minute or so to make my Cappuccino ($2/small) with one sugar which was pretty smooth with minimal bitterness and provided a decent depth of flavour throughout the cup and finished off with a slightly milky brew. For only $2 Tony sure makes a decent cup of coffee that I'd be happy to order again — I can't think of anywhere else that can make a decent espresso coffee for less.

If you're passing by and in need of a caffeine fix then give them a go and let me know what you think.

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
PROS: Very cheap, Decent coffee, Friendly and down-to-earth service
CONS: Potential delay when busy, No table seating available
MUST TRY: Hot chocolate next time to compare to Caffé Due Mondi

Bacco Wine Bar Pasticceria: New shop opening soon in QVB, Sydney (7 Sept 2010)

Shop 24-27, Level 2, Queen Victoria Building
455 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000

Bacco spreading its wings

In about 2 weeks it looks like Bacco will be opening its second shop in the grand Queen Victoria Building which is good news for those more centrally located in the CBD. It reminds me of Pendolino in The Strand Arcade which is similarly perched above the classy shops located in a very nice shopping arcade. Bacco will be located close to the central QVB dome and looks like it'll take advantage of a fair amount of seating area.

Other visits to Bacco:
21 Sept 2010 - Toasted foccacia with prosciutto, bocconcini, rocket and tomato (QVB)
7 Sept 2010 - New shop in QVB coming soon (QVB)

3 Nov 2009 - Raspberry Tart
20 Oct 2009 - Fruit Tart
31 August 2009 - Italian Chicken Schnitzel Wrap

5 June 2009 - Rose Macaron, Brownie
2 June 2009 - Chocolate Eclair, Tiramisu, Lavanda Pasta Sfoglia, Zuppa Anglaise, Panna Cotta
27 May 2009 - Strawberry Tart
25 May 2009 - Polenta Pudding, Bacco

SNAPSHOT REVIEW:
