Bacco Pasticceria: Chifley Plaza, Sydney (2 June 2009)

LG03, Chifley Plaza, 2 Chifley Square, Sydney NSW 2000

Today turned out to be a crazy sugar onslaught of trying cakes from Bacco for morning and afternoon tea and before you get the wrong idea they were shared with colleagues, I promise. Three of them were served in little plastic rectangular pyramid type cups which were eaten with spoons. I still think the Lemon Tart and Strawberry Tart are my favourites. I didn't get to try the chocolate eclair but was told more custard inside would have been better. The tiramisu had a nice coffee taste but you really needed to mix all the layers together to appreciate this because the top layer was more just a plain whipped cream. The layer of sponge biscuit on top was a little too firm when trying to spoon through it and wasn't as spongy soft as preferred.

The Lavanda Pasta Sfoglia had some nice flavours throughout and was probably the best of the day for me. The Zuppa Angalise had fresh blueberries and a strawberry positioned through the layers with a jelly type base which tasted like lychee and rose water. The top layer looked solid but was actually a very soft and sweet meringue cream. The Panna Cotta with apricot and passionfruit topping looked promising with the crowning vanilla beans but even with the visible vanilla bean seeds on the bottom it actually strangely didn't have much of a vanilla bean taste. The cannoli was recently reviewed in the SMH Good Living so I might have to try next to compare with my favourite ricotta cannoli from Pasticceria Tamborrino in Five Dock.
